Elizabeth Atwood Lawrence was associate professor in the Department of Environmental Studies, Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. She practiced veterinary medicine for fifteen years before earning a PhD in anthropology. Rodeo won the 1980 James Mooney Award for the best manuscript in anthropology on New World topics.
