Artificial Intelligence, Art and Indigeneity
Between Dreams and Hallucinations
This book explores the cultural and ethical implications of generative AI through the lens of Indigenous visual culture in Latin America.
Documenting the AIAI project, Artificial Intelligence, Art and Indigeneity explores how Indigenous artists and writers from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Chile engaged critically with text-to-image systems such as DALL·E 2 and Midjourney, using tools like IndigenIA to reflect on AI’s possibilities and limitations. Bringing together creative and scholarly perspectives, the book challenges dominant narratives of AI and representation and develops a decolonial framework grounded in Indigenous epistemologies. Structured around theory, creative reflection, and critique, it offers the first extended study of generative AI’s impact on Indigenous visual culture.
