This volume examines the profound influence French Impressionist Berthe Morisot has had on the life and work of contemporary American artist Bill Scott. 

Berthe Morisot/Bill Scott: Gardens of Paradise examines the relationship between French Impressionist Berthe Morisot and the contemporary Philadelphia painter Bill Scott. The publication focuses on Morisot’s garden paintings from the 1880s and early 1890s, and the inspiration Scott draws from them more than one hundred thirty years later. After meeting Morisot’s grandsons in Paris in the 1970s, Scott became a deep admirer and one of the world’s leading scholars of her work, which ultimately informed his own painting practice. This volume will explore both artists’ individual careers, while also celebrating Morisot’s influence on Scott’s creative output.
