REDISCOVERED! turns the spotlight onto the women artists featured in one of Europe’s most important museums, the Albertina Musuem in Vienna. 

Through a new research initiative, the Albertina Museum in Vienna has turned its attention to the women artists in its collection. This volume showcases outstanding works by women artists in its collection. It is a panorama of astonishing diversity, bringing into focus the significant contribution of women to art history. It includes numerous works that have been rarely exhibited or were never previously on view. Spanning whole epochs, from the fifteenth century to the 1970s, the works on show range from medieval woodcuts produced in convents to early feminist pieces. The collection of the Albertina’s founders, Duke Albert and Archduchess Marie Christine, already contained numerous drawings and prints by women, as well as works issued by women publishers. Yet it was only in the contemporary era that women artists became a deliberate focus of acquisition. This catalog contains essays on the works and lives of around one hundred forty women artists.
