There Is Room

Architecture of Kwong Von Glinow

The first comprehensive monograph on the Chicago-based architecture practice Kwong Von Glinow.

Kwong Von Glinow’s architectural work spans residential, civic, and cultural projects, and has been widely recognized for inventive spatial typologies, rigorous model-based design processes, and a deep engagement with the architectural fabric of Chicago. There is Room captures Kwong Von Glinow’s work since 2017 through images of models, drawings, photography, project narratives, and essays. Structured across four chapters, the book documents twenty-eight of their designs. Some 400 images and a sequence that moves from conceptual models to built work offer a close reading of Kwong Von Glinow’s design approach: rigorous formal investigation, a commitment to spatial clarity, and a sensitivity to building with context.

Interspersed essays contextualize the firm’s work within the discipline and broader architectural typologies. There Is Room is a portfolio of built and speculative work and a conceptual statement about space and architectural possibility in the contemporary city.
